You made great progress in such a short time. Your approach and attitude is optimal with growth. I like your mindset and action-oriented strategy with a pragmatic plan. Keep up the fantastic work. In a few years time you will have many paid subscribers. You are seeding now and will get the fruits when your tree matures.
Great post! I have a chronic disease which absolutely features good, bad and awful days, plus sleep disturbances so itʼs hard to know when the bad day ends or the good one ends. I have also had success with doing easier tasks on the bad days, but havenʼt been as intentional about it as you propose. Makes sense! I will do that going forward!
Thank you for the feedback, you can easily optimize those bad days for max output with this template, feel free to message me if you need anything else !
Wow, thanks for sharing that with us and giving us lots of tips. I just started mine and I'm loving every second. I'm definitely not writing to gain new subscribers but it does help! My first month I made 300 subscribers which makes writing even more worthwhile!
Reading stuff like this, is actually pretty discouraging for me... It's already 30 years since I'm on internet, always creating something new, tons of projects in the past and at this moment, but actually never earned anything with that.
Thank you for sharing, that you got 300 subscribers in first month, without actually wanting them. :O I wish you all the best!
Thank you for these really useful and interesting tips. I like the methodical and systematic ways for analysing what works and also the idea of producing a minimally viable article.
Thank you Debbie, I tried to fit in all the many benefits of story-telling in one article. It’s a skill for every writer. I write everyday. Keep an eye out.
This was a game-changer. The idea of planning for worst days instead of just ideal ones is something I never considered—but it makes total sense. So many productivity systems fail because they assume we’ll always have the energy and motivation to execute them perfectly.
Your ‘elastic habit’ approach removes that all-or-nothing pressure, making consistency sustainable. I especially loved the concept of ‘minimum viable articles’—it’s proof that showing up matters more than perfection.
Definitely implementing this in my own writing! Thanks for sharing this, Obi. 🔥
You're amazing! I'm participating in group characters and networking. I've been here a month, and I have 67 subscribers. For someone like me, who has never done anything like this, I feel pretty good about it. I support writers I admire and have found they'll do the same for me. SubStack is such an excellent format for support amongst creators. I've never experienced support like this on any other platform.
Thank you for your kind words Macy ! Your work resonates as well ! You will get the hang of it in no time I know. Substack is the gift that keeps on giving to us amazing and thoughtful writers. I am more than glad to connect with you !
Did I understand it right, when you said: "The first 10 subscribers took two painful hours of what felt like shouting into the void"?
So you had two painful hours watching how you got 10 subscribers?
I posted some articles in December (re-worked few of my 170 Medium articles) and then I posted few recenlty, in last few days. And I still have only two subscribers, myself and my gf (who probably doesn't check them anyway). And it looks that it's not even a little bit that painful for me as it was for you, watching how you got 10 subscribers in two hours.
Am I missing something here maybe?
You also told how you almost quit. Well, I never quit, I have just too many plans and projects in work (several youtube channels, some Amazon Kindle ebooks, all very good stuff, etc.).
You said how you have articles which you would be almost embarrased to post.
I have only articles which I'm proud of, why would I do opposite?
So, why am I telling you all these?
Keep it cool, you are doing so great that it's amazing and even beyond that. Maybe you think that your success came from your struggling. But that it's not true. It came from your determination. Just make this journey the joy and not a struggling, if not, you will never really enjoy it.
Thank you so much for your kind words and amazing feedback. About growth, we can work together, recommend each other and continue to share growth tips. I think Substacks community algorithm will work for you too if you keep at it! Thank you for the encouragement and yes those 10 subscribers came from interacting with my fans on the internet and pushing my writing.

Sorry about that. If you started mindfully implementing one or two of those techniques. You will soar.
This is amazing! I actually I’m very happy that you are loving every second of this practical approach. 300 is a milestone ! Congrats !
The main thing is to have fun and produce interesting content. Keep it up
Thanks🎉🙌

Thank you for the amazing feedback Amoradjine. I am glad it resonates. Planning for rainy days is key to avoiding burnout!
Thank you thank you thank you, please share as needed!

It's a great read, about your experiences.
But it looks as struggling is your goal.
